During the middle and the upper part of the Cretaceous Period, the huge transgression, spread over the area which now covers western Serbia. This is indicated by numerous fossiliferous localities abundant with gastropods of Albian to Santonian age. The aim of research is to determine gastropod species, interpret their paleoenvironment, and consequently, improve the knowledge of the geological history of the area. Due to the rapid evolution of some modern gastropod groups during the Cretaceous Period, it seems their investigation is important for better understanding of nowdays mollusk fauna.
